Totoo Nga Pala - A Daughter's Appreciation

Do you ever find yourself reminiscing of your high school days, when your money was given not earned, your laundry washed and neatly arranged in your closet and your room maintained and cleaned by the help.  All you have to do is study, worry about your grades and appear in class. If you ever got to the good side of your folks they'll even allow you to go to a party hosted by the coolest guys in town.

Now I am 30, have a wonderful career and married to the most loving and caring man I never knew I needed. Sounds perfect, right? But yesterday I sat on a chair wondering, is this really how it is? Is this really how it's supposed to be? I take care of the money, do the laundry, clean the house, cook for my husband, take care of him, manage the pantry and work at the same time. This made me wonder how my mom, a mother of 3 and married to my father for nth number of years, can do all the things she did.

Totoo nga pala, you'll appreciate someone when you get to do the things that they did for you. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the man of my life but experiencing these things, doing the chores and balancing my career and life made me appreciate my mom even more. So, totoo nga pala, I have been hearing this numerous times before, - "pag nagasawa ka maaalala at maappreciate mo din ako at lahat ng turo at disiplina ko sayo." - but I never believed her. I always thought my mom was a dramatic actress back then whenever I get scolded.  Now all I can say is TOTOO NGA PALA.

I love you mama, thank you for all the lessons and taking care of me.

And cheers to all the moms out there!
